Introduction to Cape Town

Hello from Cape Town! We left Lesotho late Friday night and managed to get here by around 2:00pm the next day. We came by bus, a mode of transportation that we always swear we will refuse to endure again. This experience was no better than some of those we had in Vietnam or Thailand. Anyway, we made it safely, which is most important.

We made our way from the Bus station to the main backpackers area of Cape Town, which is centered around Long Street. We walked around for a long time before finding a suitable place to stay that had a room available. The place we decided on is called Traveller's Inn.

The staff is nice, and the price is better than some, but we have decided to move to another spot for tonight because it was really loud, and we couldn't be sure that the sheets had been cleaned.

Yesterday evening we walked down to the Waterfront district. It has many nice dockside shops and good places to eat. We spent more time eating than shopping. Here is a picture of some of the docks, with Table Mountain (the most dominant landmark around) in the background.

We happened to get here on the last day of a Jazz festival, so the place was very crowded. There was a cool sign showing the distances from here to various cities around the world. Looks like we are indeed getting closer to home.

Today we plan to hike up Table Mountain. It isn't supposed to take more than a couple of hours to hike to the top. A cable car can also take you up, but it is too expensive. Either that, or we are too cheap. Tomorrow we hope to take a tour (probably a self-tour) of Cape Point.

The internet connection here is blazing fast, but more expensive than we became accustomed to in Thailand and Vietnam. We'll be able to keep you more updated on our travels than we were able to do while we were in Lesotho. Speaking of Lesotho, you can check out the previous post for many recently added pictures. We think that they make the post a lot more exciting to read.

Cape Town is really beautiful! And I also really enjoyed going back to your "Long Post" to see the pictures you added. Although it was plenty interesting without pictures they do add at least 1,000 words!

Grampa Ben recently sent us a slide show of Griegos, Santorini, an island of Greece and Randy has asked me to book tickets there asap! I guess he is getting the travel bug! He also liked the first Razzleberry Pie I made so much he asked me to make one every weekend so I made another one yesterday. We ate half of it yesterday and we are working on the other half right now. Thanks Myla for the idea. My second one was way better than my first one and they are easy to make.

Larissa, you are as pretty as ever! Seems like world travel agrees with you - but I am glad you are getting closer to home! 33 days to Michigan! See you there!
